       Overview
The Caps open the season against reigning Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils.  Both teams had problems in the pre-season, but are now ready to go for real.  The Caps have only really added Jaromir Jagr to the lineup, while the Devils lost Alexander Mogilny and Sean O'Donnell.  Both teams are considered possible Conference champs this season, and they open and close the year against each other at MCI.

Expect the Devils to come out a little slow on the road while the Caps will probably have difficulty moving the puck at first.  The game will get better as it goes along, but don't expect a clean, crisp match.  Both teams are too good defensively for that.

For the Capitals, keep an eye on Chris Simon and Trevor Linden who will use their huge frames to screen and block Brodeur whenever possible.

The Devils have more depth at forward than just about anyone in the league.  Caps aren't far behind.

Both teams have solid groups of d-men and forwards who help out.  Too close to call here.

Marty Brodeur has trouble with the Caps, and Olie is at home.

Add Jagr to the fourth best PP from last year and see what happens...

The Devils are always among the best at PK.  The Caps have struggled.

The Caps open the Jagr era at home. Last time the Devils played, they lost the Cup.

Very slight edge Caps.  A great test for both teams to start the year.
